Lady Diana hat Ende der 80er Jahre offenbar unerkannt als Mann verkleidet einen Abend in einer Schwulenbar verbracht. Die britische Sunday Times veröffentlichte Auszüge aus einem Buch der Komödiantin Cleo Rocos, in denen sich diese an einen gemeinsamen Abend mit Prinzessin Diana, dem Queen-Sänger Freddie Mercury und dem TV-Komiker Kenny Everett erinnert.

Die drei verpassten Diana demnach eine Militärjacke, eine Mütze und eine Sonnenbrille und nahmen sie als Mann verkleidet mit in die bekannte Bar Royal Vauxhall Tavern im Süden von London.
"Als wir in die Bar gegangen sind, haben wir gespürt, dass sie noch immer Prinzessin Diana ist und jede Minute erkannt werden könnte", schrieb Rocos demnach in ihrem Buch. "Doch die Leute haben sie einfach ignoriert." Lady Di habe, auch weil sich alle Augen auf Mercury und seine bekannten Begleiter gerichtet hätten, unerkannt Getränke bestellt. "Sie sah aus wie ein hübscher junger Mann", erinnert sich Rocos, und sie habe ihre Inkognito-Rolle "geliebt".

Freddie Mercury war 1991 im Alter von 45 Jahren an den Umständen seiner Aids-Erkrankung gestorben.
