The president of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN), Mohammed Valli Moosa, speaking in Senegal on Tuesday this week called on African governments to multiply protected maritime areas to ensure sustainable fisheries. Moosa, maintained that the conservation of marine resources contributes to sustainable development and noted that fish resources are becoming rarer and rarer in West Africa, hence the need to preserve protected maritime areas.
