Milliarden-Verlust für News Corporation

Im letzten Quartal wendete sich das Blatt von 1,1 Milliarden Gewinn zu 203 Millionen US-Dollar Verlust. Während des EBIT im Quartal noch positiv ist, ist dieses Ergebnis von plus 5,4 auf minus 5,7 Milliarden US-Dollar abgestürzt. Der Jahresumsatz des Medien- und Unterhaltungskonzerns reduzierte sich von 33 auf 30 Milliarden US-Dollar.
Die Konjunkturentwicklung zieht sich durch nahezu alle Geschäftsfelder des Konzerns. Ausnahme ist Cable Network Programming mit einer positiven Entwicklung. Die Ergebnisse im Television-Bereich sowie im Buchgeschäft sind nahezu zur Gänze zusammengebrochen.

"The past year has been the most difficult in recent history, and our 2009 financial performance clearly reflects the weak economic environment that we confronted throughout the year. We streamlined all our businesses and continue to do so, at the same time adjusting to the revolutionary changes taking place throughout the media industry", kommentiert Rupert Murdoch das vorliegende Ergebnis.
