Der Wunsch nach Söhnen hat in Indien eine lange Tradition - eine Tradition, die für Mädchen höchst lebensbedrohlich ist: Die Vereinten Nationen werten das bevölkerungsmäßig zweitgrößte Land der Erde als den weltweit gefährlichsten Ort für Mädchen. Bis zum fünften Lebensjahr sei ihre Sterblichkeit um 75 Prozent höher als die von Buben.
Laut Vereinten Nationen ist Indien der weltweit gefährlichste Ort für Mädchen. Jedes Jahr werden Hunderttausende Föten und Kinder getötet.
