Vulkan Popocatepetl ließ Asche regnen

Nach einem Ausbruch des Vulkans Popocatepetl ist auf mehrere Ortschaften im Zentrum Mexikos ein Ascheregen niedergegangen. In den Städten Puebla, San Andres und San Pedro Cholula lag am Montag eine Ascheschicht auf Häusern, Straßen und Autos. Die Behörden verteilten Mundschutze und rieten von Aktivitäten im Freien ab.

In der Nacht hatte der Popocatepetl Lava und eine etwa drei Kilometer hohe Aschesäule ausgestoßen. An dem 5.452 Meter hohen Vulkan südöstlich von Mexiko-Stadt werden immer wieder Eruptionen registriert.
