Neue Doku: Houston von Bruder mit Kokain versorgt

Neue Dokumentation enthüllt bisher unbekannte Details über den dramatischen Absturz der Musik-Legende.

Sie gilt als eine der größten Soul-Ikonen der Musikgeschichte. Doch das Leben von Whitney Houston endete auf tragische Weise: Die Sängerin ertrank 2012 im Kokainrausch in der Badewanne eines Luxus-Hotels. Nun bringt eine neue Dokumentation mit dem Titel " Whitney: Can I Be Me" bisher unbekannte Details über die Drogenprobleme der Musikerin ans Licht.

Whitneys Bruder versorgte sie mit Kokain

Die Dokumentation bricht mit dem Mythos, dass Houston durch ihren Ehemann Bobby Brown in die Drogenanbhängigkeit geschlittert sei.

"Die Idee, dass Whitney ein tolles Mädchen war bis Bobby in ihr Leben trat, stimmt einfach nicht. Whitney nahm Drogen und rauchte Gras lange bevor sie überhaupt wusste wie man ' Bobby Brown' buchstabiert", erkärt Filmproduzent Rudi Dolezal, der zusammen mit Regisseur Nick Broomfield für die Doku verantwortlich zeichnet, gegenüber der Post.

Schon als Teenager habe Houston regelmäßig Drogen konsumiert. "Das hat man damals getan", erzählt ihre langjährige Stylistin Ellin LaVar. "Man geht aus, man feiert, man trinkt und nimmt Drogen. Jeder tat das. Und ihre Brüder versorgten sie damit."

Wie sie selbst einmal gegenüber Oprah Winfrey erzählte, habe sie das erste Kokain von ihrem Bruder Michael Houston bekommen. "In den 80ern war das akzeptabel", erzählte Houston über ihren frühen Konsum.

Als sie 1989 Bobby Brown kennenlernte, soll die Sängerin bereits abhängig gewesen sein.

Brown hatte sich bereits kurz nach dem Tod seiner Ex-Frau in der Today Show von Howard Stern gegen die Behauptung, dass er Houston in die Drogensucht getrieben hätte, verteidigt.

"Ich habe nie einen Drogenrausch erlebt, bevor ich Whitney traf", sagte der Musiker, der Houston 1992 geheiraet hatte, damals. "Ich habe Gras geraucht, ich habe Bier getrunken." Härtere Drogen aber habe er nicht konsumiert. Im Leben seiner Frau hätten Rauschmittel schon "lange vor" dem Beginn ihrer Beziehung eine Rolle gespielt. "Es ist völlig unerklärlich", so Brown, "wie jemand behaupten kann, ich hätte sie abhängig von Drogen gemacht."

Während ihrer turbulenten Ehe mit Bobby Brown, die 2007 schließlich in die Brüche ging, gelangte Houston mit ihrer Alkohol- und Drogensucht immer öfter in die Schlagzeilen. Immer wieder musste sie während der 90er Jahre Konzerte absagen - bis sie 2012 schließlich an den Folgen ihres exzessiven Kokainkonsums starb.
