Mit einer starken Vorstellung gegen den 1. FC Kaiserslautern hat Hoffenheim einen großen Schritt zum Klassenverbleib in der deutschen Bundesliga gemacht. Der Erstliga-Klub siegte am Donnerstag im Relegations-Hinspiel gegen den Zweitliga-Dritten vor 30.000 Zuschauern mit 3:1 (2:0) und hat sich damit eine gute Ausgangsposition für das Rückspiel am Montag auf dem ebenfalls ausverkauften Betzenberg verschafft.

Die Treffer für die Hoffenheimer erzielten zweimal Roberto Firmino (11., 29.) sowie Sven Schipplock (67.). Für den FCK hatte zwischenzeitlich Mohamadou Idrissou verkürzt (58.) und die Hoffnungen der Roten Teufel auf eine direkte Rückkehr ins Oberhaus am Leben erhalten.

In der umkämpften Partie vergab der statt des nicht ganz fitten Kapitän Albert Bunjaku als zweite Sturmspitze neben Torjäger Idrissou eingesetzte Erwin "Jimmy" Hoffer sogar die frühe Führung für die Mannschaft von Franco Foda. Der Österreicher scheiterte jedoch in der 5. Minute mit einem Flachschuss an TSG-Torwart Koen Casteels. Die kleinen Hoffnungen der Lauterer ruhen nun auf dem Rückspiel, fast 50.000 Fans werden sie dabei im Fritz-Walter-Stadion anfeuern.
