Das Partnerprogramm zum G-7-Gipfel in Taormina, bei dem auch dieses Mal Angela Merkels Mann Joachim Sauer der einzige Mann ist, soll die Teilnehmer sowohl kulinarisch als auch kulturell beeindrucken.

Die Augen werden an diesem Freitag und Samstag nicht nur auf US-First Lady Melania Trump gerichtet sein, sondern auch auf den ersten großen internationalen Auftritt von Brigitte Macron, der Frau von Frankreichs neuem Präsidenten Emmanuel Macron.

Sauer bekommt doch nicht "männliche Unterstützung": Philip May, der Mann der britischen Premierministerin Theresa May, war trotz zunächst anderslautender Angaben nicht dabei. Weitere Teilnehmerinnen: Sophie Gregoire Trudeau aus Kanada und Akie Abe aus Japan. Gastgeberin ist Emanuela Gentiloni, die Frau des italienischen Ministerpräsidenten Paolo Gentiloni.

Am Freitag stand neben einem Hubschrauberflug über den Vulkan Ätna auch einen Besuch im antiken Theater von Catania und in einem Benediktiner-Kloster auf dem Programm der First Ladys und First Husbands. Zum Mittagessen sollte es unter anderem Blätter des Schlangenkürbisses geben - typisch sizilianisch. Am Abend nehmen die Partner der sieben Staats- und Regierungschefs am Konzert der Mailänder Scala im antiken Theater von Taormina und an einem Abendessen des italienischen Präsidenten Sergio Mattarella teil.
Am Samstag ist ein Rundgang durch Taormina geplant, zur Erfrischung zwischendurch soll es Sorbet und frisch gepressten Saft sizilianischer Orangen geben.
