Erste "Miss Albino" in Simbabwe gekürt

In Simbabwe im Südosten Afrikas ist zum ersten Mal eine "Miss Albino" gekürt worden - um gegen das Stigma von Menschen mit Albinismus anzukämpfen.

"Ich will für die Rechte von Kindern mit Albinismus kämpfen", sagte die Gewinnerin Sithembiso Mutukura am späten Freitagabend. Zur "Miss Albino Simbabwe" gekürt zu werden, sei überwältigend, so die 22-jährige Sozialarbeitstudentin.

Bei Menschen mit Albinismus ist die Bildung des Pigments Melanin gestört, was zu heller Haut führt. In etlichen Ländern Afrikas werden sie diskriminiert, viele werden auch Opfer von gewalttätigen Angriffen. In einigen Kulturen besteht der Aberglaube, dass die Körperteile von Menschen mit Albinismus magische Kräfte besitzen. Seit 2006 kam es laut Büro des Hohen Kommissars der Vereinten Nationen für Menschenrechte in 28 Ländern südlich der Sahara zu mehr als 600 Angriffen.

Insgesamt nahmen 13 Frauen an dem ersten Schönheitswettbewerb teil. Die Gewinnerin bekommt als Preisgeld 85 Dollar, deutlich weniger als ursprünglich geplant, wie Organisatorin Brenda Mudzimu sagte. Sie kritisierte, dass weder die Regierung des Landes noch der Privatsektor den Wettbewerb unterstützt hätten - lediglich eine Firma sponserte das Miss-Wahl-Event.
