Wenn man die Bilder sieht, traut man kaum seinen Augen. Ein roter Rauch weht durch die Straßen, Fahnen der linken Arbeiterpartei (PT) werden geschwenkt und ausgedruckte Masken, die das Gesicht von Dilma Rousseff zeigen - der brasilianischen Staatspräsidentin -, hat man sich aufgesetzt.
Zehntausende Brasilianer gingen am Donnerstagabend auf die Straßen und demonstrierten gegen die drohende Amtsenthebung der Staatschefin. In mehr als 30 Städten versammelten sich die Menschen zu friedlichen Protesten.

Bis zu 30.000 Rousseff-Anhänger
Allein in der Hauptstadt Brasilia kamen nach Angaben der Polizei mindestens 25.000 bis 30.000 Menschen zusammen. "Nein zum Staatsstreich", hieß es auf einem der Plakate, die die Demonstranten trugen.
Rousseff beschuldigt die Opposition, mit dem gegen die Präsidentin eingeleiteten Amtsenthebungsverfahren einen "Staatsstreich gegen die Demokratie" zu betreiben. Die rechte Opposition wirft Rousseff vor, Budgetzahlen geschönt und ihren Wahlkampf illegal mit Spenden von Zulieferern des Erdölkonzerns Petrobras finanziert zu haben.
Vermutlich Mitte April stimmt das Parlament über eine Amtsenthebung der Staatschefin ab. Nachdem die rechtsliberale Partei der demokratischen Bewegung (PMDB) am Dienstag das Regierungsbündnis mit Rousseffs PT hatte platzen lassen, dürfte es für die Präsidentin eng werden.
