Ein Automobil-Klassiker feiert sich selbst: Mehr als alte 1.200 Fiat 500 haben sich zum 60. Geburtstag des knubbeligen italienischen Kleinwagens in der Stadt Garlenda bei Genua eingefunden. Das Treffen am Samstag war bereits das 34. seiner Art. Gefeiert wurde unter anderem mit einem Autokorso. Die Design-Ikone rollte am 4. Juli 1957 erstmals vom Band.

Seit dem ersten Fiat 500 wurden nach Angaben des Unternehmens Fiat Chrysler Automobiles rund zwei Millionen Modelle des beliebten Stadtautos hergestellt. 2007 kam eine modernisierte Neuauflage auf den Markt, die ihren kurvigen Formen jedoch treu blieb. In Garlenda erinnert ein eigenes Museum an die Erfolgsgeschichte des Autos. Ein Exemplar steht seit 1968 auch im renommierten Museum of Modern Art in New York.
