Gegen die umstrittenen Burkini-Verbote an französischen Stränden sind am Donnerstag in Berlin und London dutzende Menschen auf die Straßen gegangen. In Berlin demonstrierten vor allem Frauen vor der französischen Botschaft im Zentrum der Stadt.
Eine von ihnen hatte einen Ganzkörperbadeanzug an, andere Frauen trugen Schleier oder Kopftücher. Auf Schildern hieß es "Islamophobia is not Freedom" (Islamfeindlichkeit ist nicht Freiheit) und "Liberte & egalite - Sur la plage et partout" (Freiheit und Gleichheit - Am Strand und überall".

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve warned Wednesday against stigmatising Muslims, as a furore over the banning of burkinis grew with the emergence of pictures showing police surrounding a veiled woman on a beach. "Burkini-Verbot ist rassistisch"
Vor FrankreichsBotschaft in London schufen Demonstrantinnen im Burkini mit Sand, Badetüchern, Luftmatratzen und Wasserbällen eine Strandatmosphäre. Auf Protestschildern war unter anderem zu lesen: "Burkini-Verbot ist rassistisch". Eine Gruppe von drei Frauen, die schwarze Hauben über dem Kopf trugen und sich "Schwestern des ewigen Widerstands" nannten, hielten ein Plakat mit der Aufschrift: "Freiheit, Gleichheit, Schwesterlichkeit" - eine Anspielung auf das Motto der französischen Revolution von 1789.
In diesem Sommer haben zahlreiche französische Urlaubsorte, darunter Cannes und Nizza, das Tragen von Burkinis verboten. Das Kleidungsstück wird von muslimischen Frauen getragen, die beim Baden einer strengen Auslegung des Islam entsprechen wollen. Als Begründung für die Burkini-Verbote führen die Bürgermeister an, wegen der nach den islamistischen Anschlägen angespannten Stimmung in Frankreich könne der Burkini zu Störungen der öffentlichen Ordnung führen.
